Some excellent route choice (but lots of street running). Doubled back for my cap between 1 and 2, and lost time on poor route choices to no. 10 and at the end of the long leg to no. 13. Otherwise OK, I think. (11th of 28 on course 2.) Overcast and 19 degrees.

About a 1-hour, 3.5 km, walk round training controls (in quite "green" terrain) with Geoff and Lisa. (Controls 31, 62, 35, 46, 40, 61 and back via no. 63 and 44.) Started GPS at no. 62.

OK round to no. 6 where I came off the terrace a bit far right. No. 9 looked straightforward but there was no big rock - found the control hidden in a rocky pit. No. 12 and 13 were tricky - tucked up against the wall and behind vegetation. Searched too early for no. 15 (now running head to head with another competitor) and was out left of no. 16. Forgot my GPS watch but others on the course ran between 6.06 (the planner) and 6.65 km. Came 22nd of 57 on Course 2.

Started well - was leading at no 3 - before dropping a minute at no 4 and then losing map contact en route to no 5 - found no 6 first (-7:30). Compounded the damage by following the ditch in the wrong direction at no 7 (-4 mins?) - thought I left the track at the vegetation border, but obviously I didn't! 4th of 4 in H65, 10:45 behind.

Not a bad run apart from overrunning no 2 (-1:50 according to WinSplits) and getting off course to no 8 (found no 9 first, -1:20 - or probably more). 3rd of 4 in H65, only 1:01 behind the winner.

A reasonably stable run on the first leg of the two-man H115 relay (with Mats Luspa on leg 2) - a little wide to no. 7, and dropped a minute in the circle at each of no. 9 and 11. We came 2nd of 4 teams, behind Seskarö.
